Hi Ian,
Just taking a casual look at the info for these routes and they bring back a lot of happy memories. I love the photo of RTW 1 in Colindale Avenue on the 60 with the Alperton Guy on the 79 behind it. I remember scenes like that very well. The stand was opposite the public health laboratory (I wonder if that is still operating). Both these routes used to go down Colindale Avenue and turn left into Booth Road and go along and circumnavigate the Green to turn round right in front of our house. They then used to drop off at the bus stop on the opposite side of the green and then run back to the stand in Colindale Avenue. Father said that prior to the war the buses used to stand in Booth Road but for some reason some of the residents objected so the stand was moved. It was a pain as it meant we had to walk round to the Station to get the bus but coming home you could get off right in front of the house if the driver was going slow enough. Street view shows our old house which is the left hand one of the pair behind the white van :-

When I was at Edgware I used to volunteer for the staff bus as it paid double time for the night shift and you got a nice easy time as you were allocated an RF. I could get into work on the UndergrounD from Colindale and come home the same way so it saved petrol as well. I remember walking round from the station on one lovely summer Saturday morning at the end of a week of nights - every morning of which I was greeted by a Blackbird singing his head off - but this Saturday all was silent and the silliest thought crossed my mind that the Blackbird didn't work on Saturdays. He was about when I left for my early turn on the Monday though. Nearly fifty years ago yet I remember it as if it was yesterday.

I have attached a photo' of RT 3420 taken outside the house at around the time when there was a referendum on the Commn Market. It was one of Ted Brakell's fleet and I was using it for a private hire to do with the referendum and dropped by home for a cup of tea. My late father is standing in front of the house as I took the picture. 3420 was a lovely bus to drive and it could fly. Sadly - it was exported to Sentosa Island - Singapore not long after this and it is now under the sea as part of a marine conservation project along with RTL 247 - among others - what a waste
